Definition: Deal, Coupon, Discount, Promo

In these trying times, every penny is important so we make sure that it is well spent. And because of this, most of us take advantage of the many promotions as well as deals and coupons and discounts being offered by many shops. All these terms, when heard will surely delight us and give smile on our face. But did you know that even though they entice us with the very same proposals, they also differ in meaning?

Let's digest the meaning of promotions, coupons, discounts and deals from the online dictionaries.

Promotions – this term is commonly known as “promo”. As a general term, promotion is about all the ways available to make a product and/or service known to and purchased by potential clients or customers.

Coupon – (1) is a detachable printed statement on a bond, specifying the interest due at a given time. Each coupon on a bond is presented for payment at the proper time. (2) A part of a printed advertisement as for use in ordering goods, samples, or literature

Deal - to have to do with; to buy or sell

Discount - A reduction from the full or standard amount of a price or debt. The act or an instance of discounting a bill of exchange, note, or other commercial paper.

Let's not be mistaken with the many terms used by establishments to attract customers. Make sure that you know what you're getting into. =)
