Holy Week Customs and Traditions
All Catholic nations in the world is observing the Lent season. In line with the observance are the customs and traditions by the Catholic people. Here are some of them:
1. Fasting. This means no consumption of solid food from midnight until noon.
2. Abstinence. This is about refraining from eating meat, eggs, dairy products, alcohol and fish.
3. Pabasa (literally means “reading”). This practice is most famous in the Philippines. This custom starts in Palm Sunday and lasts until but not including the Eater Sunday.
4. Daily Mass and plays. Mass includes a reading of the Passion, the story of Jesus' capture, sufferings and death except Holy Saturday.
5. Procession. This is the act of displaying the replicas of famous saints on the road.
